5: And from among my sons--for the LORD has given me many children--he chose Solomon to succeed me on the throne of his kingdom of Israel.
1 Chronicles 3:1
- These were the sons who were born to David in Hebron: The oldest was Amnon, whose mother was Ahinoam of Jezreel. The second was Kileab, whose mother was Abigail from Carmel.
- The third was Absalom, whose mother was Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur. The fourth was Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith.
- The fifth was Shephatiah, whose mother was Abital. The sixth was Ithream, whose mother was Eglah.
- These six sons were born to David in Hebron, where he reigned seven and a half years. Then David moved the capital to Jerusalem, where he reigned another thirty-three years.
- The sons born to David in Jerusalem included Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon. Bathsheba, the daughter of Ammiel, was the mother of these sons.

- When David was an old man, he appointed his son Solomon to be king over Israel.

Isaiah 9:6

- His ever expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this!
Psalms 72:1
- Give justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king's son.
- Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.
- May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful, because the king does what is right.
- Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.
- May he live as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon continues in the skies. Yes, forever!
